Dr Loh Yee Jim was formerly the Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) in Singapore. Besides being experienced in the delicate nature of paediatric heart surgery, Dr Loh is also actively involved in adult cardiac surgical work, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and valvular repair/replacements. He started the use of minimally invasive cardiac surgery with video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) / totally endoscopic closure of atrial septal defects. He has also performed the largest series of aortic valve sparing root replacement procedures in Singapore, benefitting patients with aortic root aneurysms.

He has been active in advancing the Cardiothoracic profession in Singapore over the years and he was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, and a Clinical instructor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine between 2013 to 2018. He was appointed by the Ministry of Health (MOH) to be part of the Residency Advisory Committee (RAC). He was also one of the principal members of the physician faculty of the Cardiothoracic Residency training program in Singapore.

He has held appointments as the Programme and Medical Director at the National Cardiovascular Homograft Bank, as well as the Surgical Director of the KKH ECMO program, and as the co-director of the National Paediatric Heart Transplant and Ventricular Assist Device program.

Dr Loh was a fellow at the Harvard Medical School in Boston where he did a fellowship in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery. He worked with Dr Pedro del Nido, and was appointed to the position of Chief Resident during his fellowship. He is also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). He is an alumnus of the National University of Singapore, where he received his MBBS in 2000.

He has published numerous research articles to date, and maintains an active interest in ongoing advances in medical technology.
