Dr. Tan attended the University College Dublin in Ireland and was conferred with MB BCh BAO medical degree by the National University of Ireland in the year 2004. He subsequently completed his residency in Internal Medicine and obtained his post graduate MRCP (UK) London in 2009.

He then underwent further specialization in Cardiology with the Advanced Specialist Training Program and was accredited by the Specialist Registry of Singapore as a Cardiologist in the year 2013. Following that he accepted the position of Associate Consultant Cardiologist in Changi General Hospital and was subsequently promoted to a Consultant in 2015.

Dr. Tan started to practice as an Interventional Cardiologist since 2013 focusing on managing patient with occluded coronary arteries in both emergency as well as elective settings. He treated patients who presented with major heart attack needing immediate ballooning and stenting of the blocked arteries of the heart. He also received further training as an Interventional Cardiologist from University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Canada in 2015 and 2016 managing patients with more complex coronary artery diseases and chronic total occlusions. During his Fellowship in Canada, he was a member of the Heart Team in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement dealing with patients with severe Aortic Stenosis not suitable for surgical valve replacement.

Dr. Tan was the Coronary Care Unit Director in Changi General Hospital and played a major role in educating junior doctors in Cardiology on managing critically ill patients in the Coronary care Unit. His previous educational profile would also include Senior Clinical Lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University Hospital Singapore.

Dr. Tan is also currently a member of the Fellow of Academy of Medicine Singapore in the Cardiology Chapter.
